About PMC:
A statutory regulating body known as the Pakistan Medical Commission maintains a credible register of clinical practitioners in Pakistan. Its main feature is the establishment of universal minimum standards for basic and better credentials in medicine and dentistry throughout Pakistan. Along with the cost of higher education, it also sets the educational requirements for Pakistan’s scientific schools.
History
By the recommendations of the 1947 Pakistan fitness conference, the Pakistan clinical Council was initially established in 1948 using the adoption of the British Indian Medical Council Act 1933. Later, under the Pakistan Scientific Council Act of 1951, it was reformed, and now each province has its medical council. The Sindh Clinical Council and the Punjab Medical Council were combined to become the West Pakistan Medical Council in 1957. The current Pakistan Medical and Dental Council was established as a statutory body in 1962 under the Pakistan Clinical Council Ordinance, and all provincial councils were abolished at the same time.
Cause:
The fee has been mandated to adjust the practice of medicine and dentistry in Pakistan by way of:
- Prescribing a common minimum standard of educational guidelines for achieving clinical and dentistry undergraduate and graduate degrees.
- Establishing basic standards for the content and duration of undergraduate and graduate clinical and dentistry courses.
- Establishing the aforementioned conditions for the acceptance of educational publications.
- Establishing minimal qualifications for teachers and requiring their employment at colleges of medicine and dentistry.
- Establishing the criteria for the tests and the methods for administering them.
- Defining the credentials and background needed for examiners to conduct expert exams.
- Registering all clinical and dental institutes’ schools and students.
- Maintaining clinical and dental practitioners’ sign-in.
- Maintaining clinical and dental practitioners’ sign-in.
- Examining and developing guidelines for the recognition of dentistry and scientific institutions for undergraduate and graduate education.
- Standardized analysis of undergraduate and graduate exams.
- Considering claims of misconduct and professional negligence against licensed practitioners.
- Examining and approving hospitals for training and residential activities.
- Guidelines for prescriptions for medical and dental journals.
- Issuing a certificate of experience to the school.
- Implementing reciprocity agreements with other nations and the clinical and dental regulatory authorities.
